Langtang Valley-Gosainkunda Trek

This trekking route is renowned for 108 high altitude fresh water lakes and popular destination for romantic, emotional and religious travelers. This trek offers an opportunity to explore the beautiful Langtang Valley and closely observe the Tamang culture; to climb small peaks; and to visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation.

Standard Itinerary:

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m)

Upon arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport, meet our airport representative who will be displaying our company’s placard just outside the airport terminal. Then, get transferred to the respective hotel in a private tourist vehicle. Overnight at hotel, Kathmandu

Day 2

Pre-trip Meeting; Kathmandu Valley sightseeing

After breakfast, at around 07:30 AM, pre-trip meeting is hosted in your hotel in Kathmandu in order to introduce the trek leader/guide. It is recommended to seek this opportunity to ask any question relevant to the trek. Please remember to bring the passport, 3 copies of passport-size photos, and a copy of the travel insurance policy. In any case that you will be arriving late and therefore are unable to attend the meeting, please inform in advance.

After that, get ready for the sightseeing tour that will start at around 09:30 AM. A private vehicle and professional tour guide is provided to guide you through the Kathmandu Valley including Bouddhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. A full-day sightseeing takes no more than 8 hrs to complete including the lunch time and rest of the time in Kathmandu is free for further exploration and some last-minute shopping in Thamel. Day 3

Drive to Syabrubeshi (1,462 m)

After early breakfast, drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi which takes around 8 hrs on a narrow and rough road through scenic foothills and ridge-line vistas. After driving along the mighty Trishuli River, you will get a glimpse of Ganesh Himal. Although some parts of the road may be bumpy and under construction, terraced green hills and lush forests make the drive very pleasurable. Day 4

Trek to Lama Hotel (2,380 m)

After breakfast, start walking relatively flat trail following the Langtang Khola through the beautiful rhododendron forest for 2.30 hrs, that leads you to Bamboo Lodge. From there, it’s 2 hrs uphill through nice forest, leading to Lama Hotel. Lama Hotel consists of some nice lodges and a few houses surrounded by the beautiful green forest, where one can observe some wildlife, especially monkeys. Overnight at lodge, Lama Hotel

Day 5

Trek to Langtang Village (3,310 m)

After breakfast, keep on following the Langtang Khola and the beautiful green forest. The climb through green forest is full of joy and one can have the first sight of Mt. Langtang II. Just after Ghoda Tabela (a village at 2.30 hrs walk from Lama Hotel), there is a national park check post where the permits will be checked. From Ghoda Tabela, the green scenery starts disappearing and disappears completely by the time you arrive to Langtang Village, after 5 hrs walking from Lama Hotel. Langtang is a beautiful Tamang Village, where one can notice the influence of Tibetan culture in the life. One can see Mt. Ganchhepo (6,387 m) and Tsergo Ri (4,984 m) from there. Day 6

Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,750 m)

After breakfast, walk for around 3 hrs on a relatively easy grassy trail along Langtang Khola to reach Kyanjin Gompa, a settlement surrounded by the big snow mountains, Kyanjin Ri is right on the north of the village. One can see Mt. Langtang Lirung (7,245 m), Mt. Khimjung, Mt. Ganchhepo (6,387 m), and Mt. Naya Kang, from the village. Overnight at lodge, Kyanjin Gompa

Day 7

Rest day for exploration

A rest day not for acclimatization actually, but for exploration. The valley extends to the east and at the end to the north to Langshisha Kharka, which is the meeting point of 3 glaciers. The Mountains are very close and the trail is relatively flat as Langshisha Kharka (4,100 m) is on a 4 hrs distance. Overnight at lodge, Kyanjin Gompa

Day 8

Climb Tsergo Ri (4,984 m)

After breakfast, walk on a flat trail for 1 hr and a hard climb for 2.30 hrs to reach to the top of Tsergo Ri. A magnificent 360 degree panorama including Shishapangma (8,012 m) of Tibet compensates the hard climb that has been done. Yala Peak is right on the north and one can have a look at the Langtang Valley that he/she has been walking through. Afterwards, it’s approximately 2.30 hrs to get back to Kyanjin Gompa. Day 9

Trek back to Lama Hotel

Day 10

Trek to Thulo Syabru (2,190 m)

After breakfast, trek down to the Landslide, then climb steep up to Thulo Syabru. It is a hard climb through rhododendron forest leading us to a beautiful Tamang Village, where the daily lives of Tamangs as well as the panoramic view of the Langtang Valley can be observed. At the same time, one can see Ganesh Himal and Paldor Himal along with Langtang Lirung and Langtang II. Overnight at lodge, Thulo Syabru

Day 11

Trek to Singompa (3,270 m)

After breakfast, climb steeply up through pine and rhododendron forest for 1 hr and walk for another 2 hrs on a relatively flat trail through the pine forest leading to Singompa, which is also known as Chandanbari. Singompa provides panoramic views, exhilarating nature and a yak cheese factory. The cheese produced here is considered the best in Nepal. Overnight at lodge, Singompa

Day 12

Trek to Laurebinayak (3,910 m)

After breakfast, walking on a relatively flat trail through the mixed green forest for 2 hrs you arrive to Cholangpati, a place from where one can enjoy the great panorama of the Langtang Valley and the green valley on the south along with the view of Langtang Lirung and Langtang II. From here, it is a 1 hr steep climb to Laurebinayak. By the time you arrive to Laurebinayak, the tree line completely disappears, leaving you on grassy and rough landscape. Laurebinayak is an excellent viewpoint, considering the views of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang range mountains from one point. Overnight at lodge, Laurebinayak

Day 13

Trek to Gosainkunda (4,380 m)

After breakfast, following a steep climb up to a Shakyamuni Temple and climbing further, you will have a nice view of Sharaswatikunda and Bhairabkunda. Then, it is a gentle climb to Gosainkunda. Gosainkunda is a holy lake for the Hindu people, especially for the followers of Lord Shiva. In this area, altogether there are 108 holy lakes, Gosainkunda being the biggest and the most important one. There are a few nice lodges and a temple of Lord Shiva on the side of the big lake. Day 14

Rest day for exploration

After breakfast, spend the day walking around the big lake, exploring other lakes around, and enjoying the great view of Chhyarkung Chuli, Surya Peak and other surrounding mountains. Overnight at lodge, Gosainkunda

Day 15

Trek back to Singompa

After breakfast, rejoin the trail to Singompa. Overnight at lodge, Singompa

Day 16

Trek to Dhunche (1,950 m)

After breakfast, trek steep down through pine and rhododendron forest for 2.30 hrs and another 1.30 hrs walk on a relatively flat trail leading you to Dhunche, which have already passed through on the drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi. Overnight at lodge, Dhunche

Drive back to Kathmandu

After breakfast, drive back to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel, Kathmandu

After breakfast, free till check out time; get transferred to Kathmandu International Airport for your final departure.
