Helambu Trek

Helambu is a region of highland villages in the northern part of the country; about 75 km from Kathmandu and the area is inhabited by Sherpas. The languages, culture and the dress of Helambu Sherpas are different from those of Sherpas in Solukhumbu. The region is also famous for its sweet apples and artistic Buddhist monasteries.

This is a good trek for those who don’t have much time in Nepal. It is an 8-day long trek which starts form Sundarijal, just 15 km to the north from the centre of Kathmandu, but can be completed as little as 5-6 days. On the way to Helambu, there is a surprising amount of old-grown forests. Magnificent old rhododendrons grace the trail between Tharepati and Melamchi Gaon. It has a splendid variety of wild flowers, snow covered peaks, and varieties of birds to make your journey remarkable.
