Gokyo-Renjo La Pass Trek

A trek different from the normal trek done in this area (Everest Base Camp is being the normal trek), the area (Gokyo Valley and Thame Valley) is less crowded as very few people take this route. This trek includes beautiful Gokyo Valley, excellent panorama, sparkling Gokyo Lakes, a rarely attempted pass (Renjo La), and less explored Thame Valley and of course very few trekkers.

Standard Itinerary:

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m)

Upon arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport, meet our airport representative who will be displaying our company’s placard just outside the airport terminal. Then, get transferred to the respective hotel in a private tourist vehicle. Overnight at hotel, Kathmandu

Day 2

Pre-trip Meeting; Kathmandu Valley sightseeing

After breakfast, at around 07:30 AM, pre-trip meeting is hosted in your hotel in Kathmandu in order to introduce the trek leader/guide. It is recommended to seek this opportunity to ask any question relevant to the trek. Please remember to bring the passport, 3 copies of passport-size photos, and a copy of the travel insurance policy. In any case that you will be arriving late and therefore are unable to attend the meeting, please inform in advance.

After that, get ready for the sightseeing tour that will start at around 09:30 AM. A private vehicle and professional tour guide is provided to guide you through the Kathmandu Valley including Bouddhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. A full-day sightseeing takes no more than 8 hrs to complete including the lunch time and rest of the time in Kathmandu is free for further exploration and some last-minute shopping in Thamel. Day 3

Fly to Lukla (2,810 m) & trek to Phakding (2,610 m)

From Kathmandu, take an early flight to Lukla. It’s a 40 minute flight with excellent views of Langtang, Rolwaling and Everest mountain regions in the north and beautiful green valleys in the south. Upon arrival to Lukla, get briefing by your guide and get introduced with the porters before walking towards Phakding following the Dudh Koshi River. Day 4

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,450 m)

After breakfast, continue the trek along the banks of the Dudh Koshi, crossing this river many times on exciting suspension bridges laden with prayer flags. After entering the Sagarmatha National Park, where the permits are checked, the trail climbs steeply with breathtaking views. Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Everest, is home to many quality restaurants, hotels, lodges, shops, money exchanges, cyber cafes and bakeries. Day 5

Day 05: Rest day for acclimatization

A necessary day to spend here in order to acclimatize and adjust to the thinning air; a short trek exploring the beautiful town as well as going for an easy acclimatization walk up Syangboche or Khumjung. After breakfast, hike to the Everest View Point Hotel, an ideal place to overview some outstanding mountains such as Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku etc. The hike can be extended to Khumjung Village or Khunde Village to explore more about the Sherpa people and their lifestyle. Day 6

Trek to Dole (4,085 m)

After breakfast, walk for 2 hrs on a relatively flat trail; diverge from the main trail to EBC to enter the Gokyo Valley. From the point of diversion, it’s 1.30 hrs climb to reach Mong Danda (which is the birthplace of Saint Lama Sanga Dorje, the reincarnation Lama of Rongbuk Monastery). From Mong Danda, one can have a good look at the Dudh Koshi Valley. Afterwards, the trail descends to the Dudh Koshi and reaches Phortse Thanga. And then, the trail climbs steeply through rhododendron forests, passing many Kharkas on its way to Tongba (3,950 m), Gyele (3,960 m) and finally Dole. Overnight at lodge, Dole

Day 7

Trek to Machhermo (4,410 m)

After breakfast, climb through a huge rock at Lhabarma (4,330 m) and carry on to Luza (4,340 m). From Luza, the trail continues to climb to Machhermo (4,410 m) where you can have good views of the mountains. Overnight at lodge, Machhermo

Day 8

Trek to Gokyo (4,750 m)

After breakfast, pass through Machhermo, climb and reach Pangka (4,390 m). Beyond Pangka, the trail drops and again climbs steeply. From there, you can see the massive Ngozomba Glacier. Pass from the side of two lakes and finally reach Gokyo. Situated right below Gokyo Ri (5,387 m), placed in between Ngozomba Glacier and the Third Lake. Overnight at lodge, Gokyo

Day 9

Rest day for acclimatization

In the morning, one can have a walk around Gokyo Lake. For a splendid panoramic view climbing Gokyo Ri is a must. It’s better to climb in the afternoon as most of the mountains are on the eastern side. From Gokyo, one can see the Everest, but a bit far. One can see 4 out of world’s 6 highest mountains (Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu and Mt. Cho Oyu) from a single point. Mt. Cho Oyu and Mt. Ghyachung Kang appear as a big ice wall bordering Tibet. The massive Ngozomba Glacier is right below. One can take a walk to the lakes following the Gokyo Valley further towards the north. From the Fifth Lake, a magnificent view of Mt. Everest can be seen. Overnight at lodge, Gokyo

Day 10

Trek to Lunde (4,300 m) via Renjo La Pass (5,340 m)

After breakfast, walk for approximately 3 hrs to arrive at Renjo La on the other side of the Third Lake form Gokyo, where you will have a breathtaking view as the reward for your hard work. Afterwards, it’s 2.30 hrs walk down to Lunde. This beautiful alpine valley is a trade route for Tibetan yak caravans heading to Namche Bazaar. Trek to Thame (3,800 m)

After breakfast, trek down to Thame, viewing more amazing snow peaks. Internationally recognized as the home of world famous Mountaineers such as renowned Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, Ang Rita Sherpa and Apa Sherpa, Thame is an absolute gem. Trek to Namche Bazaar

Day 13

Trek to Lukla

After breakfast, trek back to Lukla, the starting point of the trek, enjoying time to reflect on the trek as a group and the personal achievement of all those who took part and also giving time to explore the town. Overnight at lodge, Lukla

Fly back to Kathmandu

After early breakfast, fly back to Kathmandu enjoying the last glimpse of the mountains that have been recently visited for one last time on the 30 minute scenic flight. On arrival in Kathmandu, get transferred to the respective hotel. Overnight at hotel, Kathmandu

Day 15

Free day in Kathmandu

After breakfast, relax and enjoy the day on your own. It’s also spare day in case of bad weather in Lukla. Overnight at hotel, Kathmandu
